WIMBLEDON OPENS ITS DOORS TO SHOWCASE THE NEW ROOF OVER CENTRE COURT

Wimbledon Date: May 20, 2009
Project: Wimbledon AELTC Redevelopment

On Sunday 17 May Wimbledon's Centre Court opened its doors to the public for 'A Centre Court Celebration'. This event was the first chance for The All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) to test the bowl conditions with the retractable roof over Centre Court.

The new roof is part of major redevelopments at Wimbledon, designed by Populous.

The capacity crowd of 15,000 enjoyed a day of performances from singing sensations Katherine Jenkins, Faryl Smith and Blake. Star tennis players Andre Agassi, Tim Henman, Stefi Graf and Kim Clijsters all competed in matches beneath the closed roof. The new roof received the approval of players and spectators alike.
